The story:
The legend of the Dusty Miller started back in the mid-1900s when Marceline was a booming railroad town. There was a guy by the name of Tom Miller who was a worker on the railroad, and he was also a frequent customer of Ma Reece's, a local soda shop that was located on Main Street USA. One day as he was getting off the train, he ran over to Ma Reece's because he was very excited to tell her about this creation that he had been thinking of. So, he went in and hopped up on the bar stool and said, "Ma, Ma, I have this really good idea for a new ice cream dish and I would like for you to make one for me" She turned around and said, "Tom Miller you are filthy, you're covered in coal dust and you've gotten it all over my counter. You need to go home and get yourself cleaned up." Tom told her that he would if she would make him this ice cream dish first. So, she went ahead and made it for him, he enjoyed it so much that he kept coming back and asking for it. Well all the local customers kept seeing this and wanted to try one. Ma Reece ended up putting this item on her menu full time and decided to name it after Tom Miller and the day he came in covered in coal dust.
